The original master plan for the Mountain Discovery Charter School transformed the 11 acre hilltop in rural Swain County from a collection of deteriorating modular buildings to a modern campus for learning. Continuing with the same core value, plans to build in place were revisited when the adjoining property was acquired and purchased by the Foundation. Phase 1 of the multiphase plan for the new property was to build a much needed Gymnasium Building. This building houses a multipurpose gymnasium and assembly space and a lobby/gallery space which are used for dining on a daily basis. The building was designed for a proscenium opening and a control room space for a future stage addition for school performances. Future phases will replace the 12 modular buildings on the new property with several classroom buildings and an administration building.
