The Dogwood and Laurel Dormitories are dormitory buildings that were designed to reflect the traditional aesthetic of the Mars Hill University campus. The 15,000 SF Dogwood Residence houses 47 students on two levels, while the larger Laurel Residence houses 67 students at 20,500 SF on three levels. The buildings were designed as prototypes so that future dormitories can be created (a third building will be under construction next year). Each dormitory contains two student bedrooms with a shared living room/lobby, a small kitchen and convenient bathrooms. The MHU campus topography factored heavily into the design of the prototypes, as well as security, durable materials, and energy efficient technologies.
