The Lake James State Park Visitor Center is an approximately 7,000 square foot, single story building with associated site amenities intended to serve as a welcome and resource center for visitors to Lake James State Park. Located on an undeveloped site on a ridge overlooking Lake James, the building comprises of a large exhibit hall, retail space, two meeting/classrooms, an administrative suite, public restrooms, and building service spaces. The building also serves as the trail head for a new accessible trail leading to a new steel and concrete pedestrian bridge spanning a narrow cove just north of the visitor center. The new trail and bridge, along with a new parking lot for 225 cars, access drive, and an informal outdoor classroom/amphitheater are all included in the project scope.
