Lake James State Park Visitor Center

The Lake James State Park Visitor Center is an approximately 7,000 square foot, single story building with associated site amenities intended to serve as a welcome and resource center for visitors to Lake James State Park. Located on an undeveloped site on a ridge overlooking Lake James, the building comprises of a large exhibit hall, retail space, two meeting/classrooms, an administrative suite, public restrooms, and building service spaces. The building also serves as the trail head for a new accessible trail leading to a new steel and concrete pedestrian bridge spanning a narrow cove just north of the visitor center. The new trail and bridge, along with a new parking lot for 225 cars, access drive, and an informal outdoor classroom/amphitheater are all included in the project scope.

PFA provided design services for Camp Blue Star in Hendersonville in order to renovate the girls’ and boys’ cafeterias which had become rundown. New flooring, wall finishes, and lighting were selected to create a rustic, but durable camp-like design. Large murals painted on plywood panels by decades of campers were arranged into a mural wall in the main dining room to create a special focal point incorporating generations of Blue Star artwork
